A Hometown Advocate

Deep roots in the mountains, decades in the courtroom

Eastern Kentucky isn't just where this firm practices — it's home. Jeffery N. Lovely has spent thirty years appearing in the circuit and district courts of the region, building working knowledge of the local courts, prosecutors, and juries that out-of-town firms simply don't have.

That local experience means honest answers about your case from day one: what you're facing, what your options are, and how we fight for the best possible outcome.

Criminal Defense

Serious Criminal Offenses

Being charged with a serious crime is one of the most frightening experiences a person can face. Your freedom, your reputation, your job, and your family's future are all at stake — and the Commonwealth has trained prosecutors and investigators working against you from day one. You need an advocate with the experience to level the field.

For thirty years, Attorney Lovely has defended clients across Eastern Kentucky against the most serious charges in the criminal code, including:

  • Murder and homicide offenses
  • Rape and other sexual offenses
  • Assault — first through fourth degree
  • Burglary and theft offenses
  • Drug offenses — possession, trafficking, and manufacturing charges

Every case begins with a thorough, independent review of the evidence: how it was gathered, whether your constitutional rights were respected, and where the Commonwealth's case is weakest. Whether the right path is suppression of evidence, negotiation of reduced charges, or a full jury trial, you will know your options honestly and make the decisions together.

If you or a loved one has been arrested or is under investigation, do not give a statement before speaking with an attorney. Early involvement of defense counsel can change the outcome of a case.

Personal Injury

Car Wrecks, Slip & Fall, and Wrongful Death

A serious injury turns life upside down in an instant — medical bills pile up, paychecks stop, and insurance companies start calling with offers designed to protect their bottom line, not your recovery. You are entitled to be made whole, and that rarely happens without a lawyer who is prepared to go to trial.

The firm represents injured people and grieving families throughout Eastern Kentucky in claims involving:

  • Car, truck, and motorcycle wrecks — including uninsured and underinsured motorist claims
  • Slip and fall / premises liability — injuries caused by unsafe property conditions
  • Wrongful death — pursuing justice and compensation for families who have lost a loved one to negligence

We investigate the wreck or incident, gather the medical evidence, deal with the insurance adjusters so you don't have to, and pursue full compensation: medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and future care needs.

Injury cases are handled on a contingency-fee basis — you pay no attorney's fee unless we recover money for you. And because Kentucky law puts strict time limits on injury claims, it costs you nothing to find out where you stand today.

Bankruptcy

Chapter 7 & Chapter 13 Bankruptcy

Honest, hard-working people fall into debt for reasons beyond their control — a layoff, a medical crisis, a divorce, a business that didn't make it. Federal bankruptcy law exists to give you a way out, and using it is not a failure. It is a fresh start the law was written to provide.

  • Chapter 7 — often called "straight bankruptcy," Chapter 7 can eliminate most unsecured debts such as credit cards, medical bills, and personal loans, typically within a few months, while Kentucky's exemptions protect essential property for most filers.
  • Chapter 13 — a structured repayment plan over three to five years that can stop foreclosure, let you catch up on your house or vehicle, and resolve debts you intend to repay on terms you can actually live with.

The moment your case is filed, the automatic stay stops most collection actions: the phone calls, the garnishments, the lawsuits, and in many cases foreclosure and repossession. We will review your full financial picture, explain which chapter fits your situation, and handle the process from filing through discharge.

The firm is a debt relief agency. We help people file for bankruptcy relief under the Bankruptcy Code.

General Civil Practice

Civil Litigation & General Practice

Life in the mountains brings the same legal needs as anywhere else — and having one trusted local attorney to turn to matters. Beyond its core practice areas, the firm handles a broad range of civil matters for individuals, families, and small businesses in Eastern Kentucky, including:

  • Contract disputes and collections
  • Property and boundary disputes
  • Landlord–tenant matters
  • General civil litigation in circuit and district court

If your legal issue doesn't fit neatly into a category, reach out anyway. If it's a matter the firm handles, you'll get experienced representation; if it isn't, you'll get an honest referral to someone who can help.

About the Attorney

Jeffery N. Lovely

Attorney Jeffery N. Lovely

Jeffery N. Lovely, Attorney at Law

For thirty years, Jeffery N. Lovely has practiced law in the hills of Eastern Kentucky, representing his neighbors in the matters that matter most: their freedom, their health, their homes, and their livelihoods.

From offices in Salyersville and West Liberty, Attorney Lovely has built a practice on a simple idea — that the people of this region deserve the same caliber of legal representation available anywhere in the Commonwealth, delivered by someone who knows their communities, their courts, and their way of life. Over three decades he has tried and resolved cases ranging from the most serious felony charges to complex injury claims and financial reorganizations, appearing regularly in the circuit and district courts throughout the region.

That trust extends beyond his clients. Attorney Lovely serves as Magoffin County Master Commissioner, an appointment of the Circuit Court, and as attorney for both the City of Salyersville and the Salyersville–Magoffin Joint Housing Authority — public roles that reflect the confidence the courts and the community place in his judgment and integrity.

A graduate of Alice Lloyd College and the University of Akron School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor magna cum laude, Attorney Lovely returned to the mountains to practice. Clients of the firm work directly with him from the first consultation through the resolution of their case. Calls are returned, questions are answered plainly, and no client is left wondering where their case stands.
